Keeping the Winter Blues Away from Your Home

Posted: February, 16, 2023 | Categories: Crafts

Is it just us, or has this winter felt especially cold? Even with Colorado’s famously high number of sunny days, that familiar mid-winter chill can sneak up quick! If you’re looking for ways to keep spirits high in your beautiful Solstice™ home over the next few months, you’re in luck: Read on for a few tricks to stay warm and happy until the crocuses bloom.

Hygge

Have you tried Hygge? This Danish principle — pronounced “hue-gah” — is the practice of deliberately committing time to relaxation and comfort, either with family/close friends or alone. Over the past five or so years, Denmark’s cozy aesthetic palette of neutrals and earth tones has taken the interior decorating world by storm. It’s easy to see why! Who doesn’t feel better after disappearing under an oversized ecru blanket with their nose in a twisty Nordic mystery novel? It’s especially helpful to remember that in its traditional Danish conception, Hygge emphasizes spending quality time with family and friends — so why not invite a few of your Solstice™ neighbors over for a cozy afternoon together? Community is one of the best ways to alleviate your February Scaries.

Adult Hot Chocolate

Speaking of cozy… Maybe it’s time to bring back some of your childlike wonder. Do you remember that morning in the fourth grade when you woke up to a foot of fresh snow and the announcement that your school was closed for the day? There’s no better feeling! Although it may be nearly impossible to replicate that specific brand of snow white excitement, why not let your inner child lead for a moment by whipping up a batch of gourmet hot chocolate? Feel free to stick to the classics or kick it up a notch with high-quality baking chocolate and a touch of cayenne — we won’t tell if you want to add a little bit of brandy, bourbon, or Irish cream. The pleasure is in the creativity, so try  delectable, melt-in-your-mouth homemade marshmallows to top things off. They’re easier to make than you might think. Float one of these sweet delights in a steaming mug of creamy cocoa and you just might feel like a kid again.

Houseplants

Research has shown time and time again that bringing flora into your life offers countless benefits —  their natural beauty aside, numerous studies have shown that houseplants are tremendously good for our mental and physical health. Though some are better than others, all indoor plants passively generate oxygen, purify air, and decrease stress. Some options — like gorgeous begonias — are capable of blooming year-round, bringing a sorely missed pop of natural color into your home to boost your style along with your mood.

Is it just us, or is it starting to feel especially cozy in here? Spring is just around the corner and we can’t wait to see the sprouting flowers along the High Line Canal — but until then, we’re having so much fun finding joy in the snug and cheerful moments that only winter can bring into our lives. From a relaxation mindset to tasty and nostalgic treats, we’re making the most of our snowy days at Solstice™. Get in touch if you want to see what it’s like to be part of this special Colorado community!
