Posted: September, 19, 2025 | Categories: Events

When September rolls in, Colorado’s landscapes begin their slow, spectacular shift. The foothills take on golden edges, aspens shimmer against deep evergreens, and mountain valleys glow under crisp blue skies. Living at Solstice™ means you’re not far from some of the state’s most breathtaking seasonal drives, making early fall the perfect time to see them firsthand. Whether you’re in it for a quick afternoon escape or a full-day adventure, here are a few routes worth adding to your list.

Kenosha Pass: A Classic with Room to Explore

About an hour from Solstice™, Kenosha Pass is one of Colorado’s most famous fall color destinations — and for good reason. The wide meadows and aspen groves seem to catch the light just right, making the whole scene glow. Park at the designated trailhead to stretch your legs along the Colorado Trail, or simply roll down the windows and take in the views as you drive.

Guanella Pass: High-Altitude Drama

Rising between the towns of Georgetown and Grant, Guanella Pass offers an ever-changing backdrop of alpine lakes, jagged peaks, and brilliant aspen stands. The road climbs above the treeline, so you can catch both sweeping panoramas and close-up bursts of color in the same trip. If you’re starting from Solstice™, head west on US-285 to reach Grant, then turn north onto Guanella Pass Road for the full experience. Pack a picnic or grab lunch in Georgetown before heading up.

Deckers to Woodland Park: A River-Lined Route

If you’d rather avoid high-elevation roads, take the scenic drive along Highway 67 through Deckers to Woodland Park. The South Platte River winds alongside the road for much of the way, framed by cottonwoods that turn a soft yellow in the fall. This is a quieter, more relaxed route that’s lovely for a slow Sunday drive or a midweek reset when the roads are less busy.

Mestaa’Ehehe Pass to Echo Lake: Mountain Views with a Twist

Starting in Evergreen, this winding route up Mestaa’Ehehe Pass offers a little bit of everything: dense pine forests, golden aspen clusters, and sudden glimpses of Mount Blue Sky in the distance. Stop at Echo Lake to stretch your legs, sip something warm from the lodge, and take in the reflection of fall colors on the water. For a loop, continue down to Idaho Springs and return via I-70.

Make the Most of the Season

Fall color doesn’t last forever, and the peak can shift quickly depending on weather. Check a reliable foliage tracker before you go, dress in layers, and bring your camera — or just soak it in without distraction. The beauty of living at Solstice™ is how close you are to these drives, so you can head out on a whim without turning it into an all-day expedition.
